What is INDEX?
INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH DATABASE FOR EXTRACORPOREAL SUPPORT
INDEX is a global initiative designed to create a high-quality registry of critically ill patients requiring extracorporeal life support (ECLS), such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R). INDEX is a collection of real-world health data from major ECLS centers worldwide, providing valuable insights into patient demographics, treatment protocols, clinical outcomes, complications, resource utilization, and long-term health outcomes. This extensive data set allows for the benchmarking of current practices, the identification of gaps in care, and the implementation of evidence-based improvements. By uniting experts from diverse disciplines internationally, INDEX can shape the future of critical care and enhance the quality of life for ECLS patients.

OUR GOALS
Main Goal: Build a global network for ECLS Care & Best Practices
Monitor, review and benchmark current ECLS practice by providing robust international registry data to clinicians, healthcare providers, professional societies and consumers to identify opportunities to improve performance and reduce healthcare costs.

Secondary Goals
Benchmark ECLS Practices for Better Care & Cost Efficiency
We will track, analyze, and compare ECLS practices worldwide, giving clinicians, healthcare teams, and organizations the data they need to improve care, enhance performance, and lower costs.
Integrate Clinical Trials to Advance ECLS Treamtent
Embedded clinical trials within our registry can test novel interventions in patients requiring ECLS, informed by gaps in evidence previously identified by our registry.
Identify Barriers & Enablers to Evidence-Based ECLS
Our database will allow for the investigation and identification of barriers and facilitators to the delivery of evidence-based care in ECLS centres globally.
Expand Global Collaboration for Meaningful Change in ECLS Care
Due to the global nature of our database, we can collaborate with partners worldwide to build upon our platform with greater capacity, reach, and impact, which will drive meaningful change in patient care, and increase cost efficiency.
